COACHING STAFF
Girls' Head Coach/Boys' Asst.:Janel Coppens
Entering her 9th season as girls' head coach. Prior to becoming the head coach, Janel spent time as a volunteer assistant with the Lady Mariners, Head Varisty Boys' coach at St. Clair High School (2002 & 2003), Co-Varsity Head Coach at Marion High School (Ind.)(2001), and summer recreation team coach (1996,97,98). As a high school swimmer Janel was strong in the breast stroke, qualifing for the Division II state meet in 100 breaststroke. Janel competed for two seasons with the Belles of Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind. swimming the 100 and 200 breast stroke and 100 and 200 butterfly events.
When not at the pool, Janel works with incarcerated youth as a teacher at the St. Clair County Intervention Academy and savors the off-season when she can spend time with her husband and two young children, garden or relax with a good book.

Boys' Head Coach/Girls' Asst.: Mike Miller
After a short break from the fall girls' season (and a brief return to football coaching) Mike yet again returns to the pool for both girls' and boys' seasons becuase no matter what, the pool is his second home. With over 20 seasons (1985-1989, 1995-present), countless league championships, and numerous state qualifiers Mike just keeps getting better. Recently the boys' team can boast back-to-back St. Clair Area Swimmer of the Year awards and All-State Swimmers.
When not at the pool, Mike is seen throughout the halls at Gearing Elementary. He fills his free time with his obsession with fantasy football , camping trips with his wife, and teaching his three grandkids to swim, throw baseballs, and tackle.

Diving Coach: Chuck Daniel
Chuck is back for yet another season making this his 17th season with the Mariners. Bringing a wealth of knowledge and expereince, Chuck is well known and respected amongst the Macomb Area Conference for his fairness and consistent coaching. Boasting Regional and State Qualifiers, Chuck has taken the diving program to a higher standard, always looking for ways to upgrade, improve, and get our divers to the next level.
By day Chuck is an electrician and father of three. Chuck can also be found enjoying some quiet time grocery shopping for his wife, watching football or coaching his kids' little league teams.
